The smart lock or magnetic contact in the door frame sends entry information to the room automation system. If the room was previously vacant, the entrance lighting switches on, climate control enters comfort mode and the hotel’s selected welcome scene begins.

True Occupancy Detection

The Door Closes and Both Room Zones Are Scanned

Once the door closes, two detection zones—the guest room and bathroom—are monitored for a configurable period. When either sensor confirms a guest, the room changes to occupied mode. The decision is based on actual human presence rather than a card left inside.

Frequently asked questions about guest-room automation

Does a key-card holder prove that a room is occupied?

Not on its own. A card can be left in the holder or taken away by the guest. Door information and presence sensing in the room and bathroom can be combined to determine occupancy according to the project design.

What does PMS integration do?

The property management system can pass check-in and check-out status to room automation. This can trigger welcome, climate comfort/economy and post-check-out preparation scenarios. The exact data exchange depends on the PMS and the project integration.

Will the system turn off comfort when one guest leaves?

A properly designed occupancy sequence does not decide that the room is empty based on door movement alone. Room and bathroom sensors can check whether another guest remains. Once vacancy is confirmed, selected loads and climate settings follow the hotel operating policy.
